2. Panel quantity – determines how many sets you need
5 panels and 50 panels are completely different designs – material usage and unit costs change with volume. Quantity directly affects the “cost per watt” and is essential for an accurate quote.
3. Tilt angle – 10° vs 30° makes a noticeable difference in cost
A steeper angle means higher wind load on the structure, which often requires stronger posts and more bracing. Decide on the angle before asking for a quote, so the numbers you receive are actually relevant to your project.
4. Wind speed and snow load – don’t guess, check your local code
These two numbers determine whether the structure needs to be reinforced. If you don’t have them, suppliers will have to use conservative assumptions – which can lead to an over‑designed and more expensive solution, or worse, an under‑designed one. Check your local design standards first, so you get a realistic and reliable quote.
5. Site drawing or rough layout – without dimensions, the design can't be finalized
The supplier needs to know roof size, parapet height, and the location of obstructions like equipment bases or vents. Without a drawing, they can only design for an “ideal” layout – but site conditions are often different. Even a hand‑drawn sketch is much better than nothing.
